Many women struggle with thinning hair. Remedies abound and some are better than others. Today we review Women’s Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam. This product claims to regrow hair by reactivating hair follicles thanks to minoxidil. The manufacturer says this is the only once-daily women’s hair regrowth product approved by the FDA.

Ingredients

Active Ingredient

Inactive Ingredients

  • Butane
  • Butylated hydroxytoluene
  • Cetyl alcohol
  • Citric Acid
  • Glycerin
  • Isobutane
  • Lactic acid
  • Polysorbate 60
  • Propane
  • Purified Water
  • SD alcohol 40-B
  • Stearyl alcohol

Minoxidil is a vasodilator that may help regrow hair for those with a family history of alopecia. The inactive ingredients contain foaming agents, hair conditioners, propellants and preservatives.  Many are flammable and some may be toxic.

Dosage

The manufacturer instructs the user to massage one half a capful into the scalp once daily. Many users found it very difficult to apply.  Effects may take up to six months to become apparent. Women’s Rogaine %5 Minoxidil Foam must be used consistently and indefinitely or the hair loss will return.

Possible Side Effects

This brief review cannot list all the potential hazards presented by the ingredients in this medication, but they may include: nausea, headache, disorientation, difficulty breathing and allergic reaction.

Perhaps because of this, the manufacturer’s website contains a long list of cautions.  They state that the medicine works only for a certain type of hair loss. People under 18 and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use it. It should not be applied to an inflamed or broken scalp or in combination with any other scalp medications.

Rogaine suggests stopping use and contacting a physician if any of the following occur: heartbeat abnormality, chest pain, dizziness, swelling of the extremities, weight gain or growth of unwanted facial hair.

A number of reviewers on Amazon complained of potentially dangerous side effects, including allergic reactions, hair loss, rapid heartbeat, facial swelling, chemical burns, headache, weight gain and insomnia. The manufacturer notes many of these but they seem to be far more common than suggested by Rogaine.

Price

Rogaine sells the product from its website in two, four and six-month supplies with prices ranging from $29.99 (two months) to $69.99 (six months). It appears that Rogaine mandates participation in its automatic redelivery program for the two and four-month options. Amazon offers a one-time purchase of the four-month package for around $44.00.

Guarantee and Feedback

Rogaine offers a limited money back guarantee.  Consumers must use the product daily for at least 120 days before applying for a refund. The refund amount is limited to $94.00 with one refund available per household.  All returns must include the UPCs and sales receipts.

Feedback from verified buyers reviewing this product online at Amazon included assertions that the product was smelly, difficult to apply, and ineffective.  Those who had an immediate bad reaction were not eligible for a return under the terms of the guarantee.

Our Conclusive Review About Women’s Rogaine %5 Minoxidil Foam

This product has positive aspects.  It delights those who find it effective. Also, Rogaine is fairly upfront about the risks involved.

Our numerous concerns include the long and involved ingredient list.  A number of the chemicals listed are associated with possible health concerns. Many reviewers complained of painful and even dangerous reactions while others found it wholly ineffective. The limited, conditional guarantee does not help those who immediately discontinue use. Given these factors, we cannot recommend this product.
