Schiff Vitamins is an established supplement maker. Today we review their supplement for jet lag. It is, according to them, formulated to support normal sleep patterns.

Jet lag is more than a huge inconvenience when you travel to another city in a different time zone, because not being able to sleep as usual severely impacts your levels of productivity, enjoyment and good mood. The pineal gland is responsible for regulating sleep, mostly by releasing melatonin. Studies have shown melatonin supplementation to be effective against jet lag and to reset the internal clock which is thrown into confusion when the body cannot find the usual signals it is seeking for sleeping or waking up. This internal clock needs to be ‘reprogrammed’ as a result.

  • L-Theanine – 25 mg
  • Melatonin – 3 mg
  • Vitamin B6 – 10 mg

Melatonin is the accepted and usual supplementation for sleep and jet lag issues. In studies, it was this same 3 mg dose that was found to be effective. However this supplement also contains Theanine, an amino acid which helps with GABA receptors in the brain, and are responsible for calming sleep waves. It also suppresses the workings of the nervous system so that compounds associated with anxiety and nervousness are curbed. A final component here is vitamin B6, an unusual addition. It is mostly used in large quantities to stimulate hair, skin and nail growth and condition. However, it is vital to all bodily processes, including sleep regulation, metabolism and the correct functioning of the nervous system.

Take one tablet at bedtime or as recommended by a doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Only proceed with your doctor’s permission if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, suffering from any ailment requiring constant medication or trying to conceive. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while using this supplement or anytime soon after taking it.

We were unable to ascertain the price as the product no longer seems to be stocked on their website and where as it was available on Amazon before, it was not available at the time of researching this review. No price was available and there was no indication of whether Melatonin would be back in stock.

Guarantee & Feedback

We could only find one customer review from quite a few years back. Presumably, that was when the product was still available online. No reference to a guarantee or returns policy could be found which is strange for a manufacturer that is well-known and established.

Conclusive Review About Schiff Vitamins Melatonin

The three ingredients chosen are a sensible combination of chemicals in the body that would naturally lead to better, more restful sleep. In theory, it should work well and not lead to a hangover of drowsiness.

However without knowing the price point or even if this product is still retailing or will return to the retail space – online or otherwise – it is not possible to give it any kind of recommendation. It also appears that prior to being ‘withdrawn’ as a product, Melatonin did not sell well. Melatonin-based sleep supplements usually invariably do, pointing to the fact that perhaps this 180-count bottle was too high priced.
